Ok, so this is the maquette I made for Riley for my conceptual illustration class this past quarter. She actually hasn't been baked yet, because honestly, she's not finished...
I still want to add folds and details in her clothing. I didn't have time to do it this quarter.... so I just finished her enough to be "done." The thing is, I'm going to be in L.A., across country for the entire summer, so i'm not going to be able to work on her. (not taking it with me). So i'm hoping it will be ok in Savannah humidity for the summer, and i can finish it and bake it when i get back in september...

So, Alena (MumboJumbo), I was wondering if you knew how well sculpey would hold out for a few months in a humid city? heh. Cuz I do want to finish it.

If I finish it, I'll move these pics to scraps, and post the new ones...

I suck at taking pictures of maquettes... oh well.

Oh, and my favorite part of her is her hair. Yep.

This is only the second maquette I've ever made..... my first attempt can be seen here: [link]

This is so awesome! I wish I could do stuff like this. The hair is my favorite part too. XP

Yup! The hair is really awesome, especially the way how it folds/drapes over her arms. Can't wait till u get back to finish it.

Good job!

looks awsome. wish we did this kinda stuff at my skool. question, do you by chance have to do 3d animation too? i hate 3d, pain in the ass.

well, i don't HAVE to, but i'm going to. I'm taking principles of 3d animation in the fall. In that class i'll model and rig 2 characters. Then i can do short animations with those rigs and have some 3d animation on my demo reel.
but yes, i definately prefer 2d also...

well good luck with the 3d stuffs. i don't like it much. i can animate decently but i suck ass at modeling. and 3d is where the industry is going.... i'm screwed. 3d is overrated, 2d takes talent.

well, 3d takes talent too. I know I suck at modelling, it takes talent. But if you can't animate well in 2d, and learn the basic principles of animation, then your 3d animation won't come out well. They both need the same talent. But don't worry, 2d isn't going away. There is a time and place for both 2d and 3d. 2d will come back strong, don't worry =D

Ummm, it's tedious, but you can work on it while you watch tv and movies, haha. It's fun, you should try it! I can tell you how to get started if you'd like!
